Hello! My name is Adam Murrison
I am a driven college student pursuing a Mechanical Engineering Bachelor's degree and Materials Science Masters Degree at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts. I am seeking a design-oriented job, with a focus on additive manufacturing, rapid prototyping, and CAD modeling.
I am interested in both hands on projects as well as literature and research-oriented work, which can be displayed through my past and current experiences. The past few years I have had the pleasure of working for a variety of different research groups and organizations at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, including the Surface Metrology Laboratory, the Robotic Materials Group, the Cote Research Laboratory, and the Innovation Studio's Makerspace and Prototyping Laboratory.
I am extremely passionate about additive manufacturing, which can be seen in many of the projects I have participated in these past few years; some of which include the large-scale commissioned FDM fabrications I completed in the Makerspace and Prototyping Laboratory, the research oriented work on Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM) in the Cote Research Laboratory, the multi-scale geometric characterization of various materials in the Surface Metrology Laboratory, and the experimentation and characterization of flexible materials in the Robotic Materials Group.

Projects (Academic + Personal)
Repurposing PLA into 3D Printing Filament | Research, CAD, Fabrication August 2022 - March 2023
A capstone project that involves developing a machine to recycle waste material inherent in rapid prototyping into filament that can be reused, thereby making additive manufacturing and 3D printing more sustainable.
Populations in Pixels | Data Visualization, JavaScript Summer 2022
Inspired by the Japanese designer Mikami Yoshiyuki, this project aimed to visualize the populations of endangered and vulnerable species, with each pixel representing a single animal; as the population numbers rise and fall the image will either become more legible or disappear completely.

This project aimed to understand the perceptions surrounding wildfires from the perspectives of residents, town officials, and external organizations of Estes Park, Colorado.
A 3D Printed Moment | 3D Printing, Light Study Fall 2021
As part of WPI's Humanities Practicum, "A 3D Printed Moment" was created to combine the light art principles and methods that other famous artists have used, while also expanding into new techniques of my own, in this case, 3D printed Lithophanes and older techniques known as Zoetrope images.
3D Printer Monitoring System | Arduino, Electrical Summer 2021
My goal for this project was to create a monitoring system for my enclosed 3D printer that would keep track of the internal enclosure temperature to allow me to protect my stepper motors that are housed within the enclosure, track the humidity within the enclosure, and thereby improve the print quality of the printer, and finally include a fire protection system to protect myself and the printer in the event of a fire.
